The Body Shop’s long-awaited return to Richmond has been met with a surge of local enthusiasm, with the ethical beauty brand reporting a buoyant first week of trading at its new Richmond Mall store.
A week on from opening day, store operators Pamela Bonira and general manager Khan Wyman say customer response has exceeded expectations.
“It’s been amazing,” Khan says. “People haven’t just visited, they’ve come in with real excitement. We’ve heard things like ‘Please stay’, ‘We’re so happy you’re back’, and ‘Can we have more VIP events?’ The support has been very humbling.”
The store’s reopening is part of The Body Shop’s broader relaunch in New Zealand, but it’s Richmond shoppers who have offered an early indication of the brand’s reputation.
Crowds on opening day spilled through the newly-redeveloped mall concourse, and Khan says foot traffic has remained steady.
“Customers are reconnecting with their favourite products, but they’re also curious about the new ranges.”
The opening week also showcased the team’s focus on local collaboration, with launch-day support from Nelson-based GoodPops and Chia Sisters.
Khan says that community connection is central to their approach as they rebuild the brand’s presence.
“We’re proud to bring back a much-loved name, but we’re equally focused on being part of the Richmond community. Our vision is simple: high-quality ethical products and strong community relationships.”
