An Amazing Race expedition saw 90 intermediate students explore and learn more about the region earlier this month.
Broadgreen Intermediate students have been learning about Aotearoa History and the ‘Exploring Whakatū Amazing Race’ gave them 35 historical locations to visit around Nelson.
Students need to make a plan to best utilise their 3.5-hour timeframe to visit as many locations as possible, find out information along the way, take photos, answer questions and create videos to complete tasks.
Locations included Fifeshire House, Fairfield Cemetery, Stoke War Memorial and Whakatū Marae.
The top team from each of the three classrooms managed to get to all but two locations.
Organiser Kirstin Mannix says the event was a great way to cap off the year and reaffirmed the students’ connection to Whakatū.
