Joyous scenes at Brightwater’s Centennial Park as the sun set on the day marking 11 sleeps till Christmas.
Dozens of children chortled at the bouncy castle and tugged their caregivers’ arms to join the long queues for ice cream before wrapping up their high spirits with Santa’s arrival and going absolutely feral trying to pick up as many lollies as they could in the classic lolly scramble.
The adults took a more languid approach, rolling out the picnic blanket to take in the Brightwater Christmas Party, with Brightwater School carols and Kelvin Woodley’s Christmas classics from the Wanderers Clubrooms’ stage the star attraction. A barbecue sizzled like the golden hour temperature.
Event spokesperson and member of the Brightwater Community Association who spearheaded the festivities, Di Drogemuller, commended the turnout and said it was a far cry from the 2024 event, which was relocated to the nearby public hall because the weather outside was frightful.
