Transported in a thrumming time portal to the era where Jesus was born for an excursion through the origins of Christmas.
Grace Church Richmond and the Headingly Centre were kitted out with a bustling Bethlehem market, a jam-packed inn with a jovial innkeeper, a stable with Mary and Joseph awaiting history, and the narrative’s other defining facets.
Coordinator of The Christmas Journey, Katrina Allred, says around 1600 were led by centurions between 12 and 14 December with church members and volunteers in traditional robes to make the experience “as authentic as we really can do in 2025. A lot of people were just amazed when they came through the door, their eyes just lit up, they think it’s amazing what has been created and the atmosphere and how it transports you back into another world,” she says.
“I think 2025 Christmas is very commercialised, it’s very about ourselves and what we can get, and this is trying to share with the Richmond community what Christmas is really about,
“It’s not about what presents you get, how much money you’ve got, it’s actually about a baby that was born 2000 years ago, and we just want to share that with the Richmond community.”
