A Christmas tradition has helped teach local kids the value of food.
Motueka’s homeschooling group has been raising smiles – and funds – by performing Christmas carols in Motueka and Richmond.
The choir brought festive cheer to residents at Woodlands Retirement Village and entertained shoppers while busking outside Connings Food Market.
The children say they love singing because it makes people happy, and they enjoy seeing their audience pause to listen for a few minutes.
Their efforts were all in the spirit of Christmas, with the group raising $120 to buy supplies for local food banks.
The Blommaart family took on the shopping, and mum Tam says the children were shocked by how little food they could buy with $120.
“Our eldest added some of his pocket money and then they decided we should put some of our Christmas budget into it as well,” Tam says.
