Crowds are beginning to gather in Nelson's central city in preparation for the New Year's Eve Countdown.
The family-friendly event kicked off at 6pm with entertainment for the kids in 1903 Square at the top of Trafalgar Street, culminating in a kids' countdown at 9pm.
Then, as the younger audience heads for home, local bands The Relatives, Imani-J, Runaway, Sun City Soul and Salisbury Road take to the stage at the top of Trafalgar Street.
The event finished at 12.30am. Public streets remain alcohol free throughout the city centre.
