
It was cloudy but the conditions were much better than last year and reflected in the quicker times for the 1200m and 600m events at the annual Tata Beach swim.
Fifteen-year-old Nayland College student Nia Linyard defended her 1200m open women’s title and was third overall in just under 18 minutes, behind another teenager Max Stanton and last year’s victor Hayden Squance.Max, who had also won the Rylock Summer Swim Series race off the Nelson Yacht Club on New Year’s Day, took 17m42s.
Fellow Nelson South Swim Club competitor Kiara Vather won the 600m dash in 12m26s ahead of Riley Kenyon and Andrea Skatrud.
Charlie Cocks was the first male home in 15m26s.
