A heavy rain watch is in place for much of the Top of the South from Wednesday evening.
Metservice issued the watch, which begins from 6pm in Nelson Tasman north of Nelson Lakes, and from 8pm in Marlborough and Kaikōura Coast.
Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria, especially west of Tākaka where thunderstorms are possible.
Metservice says there is a moderate chance of upgrading to a warning before the watch ends at noon on Thursday.
