Arts Council Nelson and Makeshift Spaces have developed a new public art project, and they need the talented young artists of Nelson to help out.
They’re asking children to create a picture of what a truly ‘fancy car’ would look like and send them in to be considered for an exciting new public mural for Nelson.
The mural is set to go on a detached building on the corner of Hardy and Kerr Streets, where all four sides will be utilised.
From entries received, they will select multiple images to be carefully reproduced in large format in the painted mural by a professional artist in March this year.
ACN community arts manager Lloyd Harwood says it’s a fun activity for kids, and one especially good for potential wet weather days during the holidays.
“Despite there being no prizes involved, we anticipate a good response from the call for entries, believing that having the opportunity to have your artwork included in a public mural will generate fun and excitement enough to participate,” he says.
“We are very excited to see what comes in and hope to see some wild, wacky and wonderful images for our artist to work with.”
He says the building made available by Network Tasman is greatly appreciated.
“Though we expect we would not be able to include everyone’s images in the finished mural; we do however intend to create an on-line showcase of all entries received to help alleviate disappointment for those that may not be selected for the mural,” Lloyd points out.
Kids must be up to 12 years old and live in Nelson. Images can be emailed to Lloyd at lloyd@acn.org.nz or dropped into the Refinery ArtSpace by 9 February. Full details can be found at www.acn.org.nz/opportunities
