Fire crews remain at the scene of a Hardy St building, believed to be a restaurant, which had a “small fire” this morning.
FENZ shift manager Blair Walklin says when crews from Nelson and Stoke arrived just before 9:30am there was smoke in the building’s rear, and a sprinkler system in the building had extinguished most of the fire.
All those who were in the building are accounted for, and the cause is unknown.
An eyewitness says he heard the alarm and saw people vacating the premises at 9:30am with fire crews arriving within minutes.
