Hundreds in deck chairs and on picnic blankets had a blast at Fairfield House Meadow on Sunday evening.
Nelson’s finest Celtic performers took the tartan-trimmed stage for Pipes in the Park as the sun dipped behind the trees and traditional Scottish goods were washed down with a selection of beverages by its audience.
The lineup featured the City of Nelson Highland Pipe Band, Nelson harpist Annemieke Harmonie, Kahurangi Irish Dance School, and Nelson guitarists Jacquie Boer and Jasper Sneddon - each celebrating the local Celtic heritage.
Band secretary and piper Lucy Jackson says the event is the main fundraiser for the pipe band, which marked its centenary in 2024, and a “really positive collaboration” with the wider music community.
“We get a lot of people that come back year after year, but we hope that they really enjoy the Scottish theme and maybe get some inspiration to want to learn an instrument,” she says.
The band offers tutoring in both bagpipes and drums for young people keen to get involved.
