A burst of summertime creativity is coming to Motueka, with a brand new series of arts workshops launching in February and March.
The Motueka Arts Council has hosted popular winter workshops since 1989, but this will be the first time the organisation has extended its programme into the warmer months.
“Our first-ever summer workshop programme is an opportunity to get creative outdoors, to really notice and be inspired by our beautiful natural environment,” says arts council chair Julienne Dickey.
“We are delighted with the opportunities on offer. There is something for everyone to enjoy — whatever your experience or skill level, you are welcome.”
The lineup includes 10 workshops, offering everything from making art with nature’s own materials to crafting a take home sculpture from Oamaru stone. Participants can also explore capturing nature through photography, painting, or even creative writing.
A special highlight of the programme is an afternoon at Te Āwhina Marae.
The visit will include a pōwhiri (welcome), a hangi lunch, a guided tour of the marae, a flax weaving lesson, and the chance to learn waiata (songs).
The programme will conclude with a sandcastle competition for children under 15, held at Stephens Bay on Saturday, 28 March.
The full programme will be launched at the Twilight Art Market on Saturday, 14 February, with the first workshop beginning Sunday, 22 February.
