A $3500 financial boost is again on offer for a local student progressing through tertiary study.
The annual Lions Club Charitable Trust tertiary scholarship is open to anyone from the Motueka High School catchment area, even if they did not attend the school.
Applicants must be in their second, third or fourth year of study, which demonstrates an ongoing commitment to their chosen path, according to Lions Club secretary Jeff Rogers.
Last year’s recipient, Jacob Satherley, says he was grateful and thoroughly happy to receive the scholarship, which helped cover paper fees and living costs. Jacob has now completed his marine studies degree at the University of Otago and says the scholarship is a valuable contribution to the Motueka community.
Three Lions Club members assess the applications individually before meeting to discuss their top choices. Jeff says the scholarship is not based solely on academic performance, but also on a student’s record of working hard and supporting themselves.
