Get the kids, grandkids, cousins and neighbours together to support a group of Brightwater volunteers doing something extraordinary.
Six members of the Brightwater Volunteer Fire Brigade are taking on the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge to raise funds for Blood Cancer New Zealand, helping New Zealanders living with blood cancer.
Elliot Slotemaker, his brother Cole, Chief Paul Shutte, Nikki Furness, Brenton Laing and Cody Treanor will climb all 1,103 steps of Auckland’s Sky Tower in full 25kg firefighting kit this May. Every day after work, they train on the steep 400m climb up Katania Heights, often repeating it several times. Used to lighter rural gear, the team is now battling the weight and heat of full structural kit as much as the hill itself.
To help them reach their fundraising goal, a family fun day is being held this Sunday, 15 March, at Teapot Valley Christian Camp.
For a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to Blood Cancer New Zealand, families can enjoy a mega waterslide, climbing wall, archery, fire trucks and a zipline. Sausage sizzle and ice cream will be available to buy.
The fun day runs Sunday, 15 March, from 2pm to 6pm at 200 Teapot Valley Road, Brightwater. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
It is a simple way to show support for those who show up for the community every day. Bring the family, spread the word, and get in behind Brightwater’s firefighters this Sunday.
