Wakefield is an increasingly diverse community and last week provided an opportunity for many to connect at Wakefield School through a meet-and-greet session.
The event was organised in partnership between Multicultural Nelson Tasman and Multicultural Youth Nelson Tasman, aimed at connecting cultures and sharing ideas.
Multicultural Nelson Tasman board member Rym Lamrani says people often gather in their own communities rather than connect with others in the wider community.
“What I would like to see is connected communities. That’s why we’re doing the meet and greet,” she says. “I’d like to see everyone being able to express what they would like to see.”
Multicultural Nelson Tasman coordinator Ramiesha Perera says youth from different cultural backgrounds plan to visit primary schools, and through interactive activities, teach about diversity, inclusion and well-being.
