Relay For Life at the Richmond A&P Showgrounds is nearly underway to raise funds for Cancer Society Nelson Tasman, with 70 local teams made up of more than 900 relayers circling the track until 8am on Sunday.
Supporters are also out in force to lift spirits.
An emotional Celebration Lap will officially opened proceedings, led by cancer survivors, and those who’ve been a bedrock on their journeys which no one wishes to be on.
Kai and entertainment will keep participants and supporters energised throughout the event.
As night falls, the Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony takes place, with candle bags lining the track in dedication to people affected by cancer, offering a time for quiet reflection and remembrance.
Every cent raised supports Cancer Society Nelson Tasman’s local cancer support services and health promotion initiatives.
Close to $193,000 has already been added to the donation tally with $250,000 the target.
Donations can be made online or in person at the Relay For Life venue, with 31 March the donation deadline.
