New tenants are being sought for the high-profile site at Three Brothers Corner - land long-designated for a Hope Bypass.
The site on the corner of Appleby Highway (State Highway 6) and the start of Gladstone Rd (State Highway 60), has been empty since Sun City Motors vacated the site.
The land has been in crown ownership since 1948 and is administered by New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) Waka Kotahi, which is now seeking new tenants.
A spokesperson said the Hope Bypass was formally designated in May 1964 under the Town and Country Planning Act (1964) for a proposed motorway. The designation has since been carried over through successive Waimea County and Tasman Resource Management Plans. The lapse date for the designation was extended from November 2023 to November 2038.
Waimea Weekly is looking to unearth some of the history of the buildings on the site. If you have any information, please email anne@topsouthmedia.co.nz
