The holeinone prize may have gone unclaimed, but the Ambrose Golf Tournament still hit the mark last weekend, raising $15,000 for the Motueka Aquatic Centre project.

The Rotaryled fundraiser drew a soldout field at Motueka Golf Club on Sunday, 15 March, with just under 130 players across 32 teams. All proceeds will go towards the community’s $4.4 million contribution to the aquatic centre, alongside the $15.6 million already committed in Tasman District Council’s Long Term Plan.
Speakers included deputy mayor Brent Maru, Rotary Club of Motueka president Paul Heywood and Motueka Aquatic Centre Fundraising Committee chair Ross Loveridge, with Tim Morice as MC.
Hit and Hope topped the tournament with a score of 56.88, followed by Four Dudes, Motueka Swashbucklers and The Honest Burglars. Leon Casagrande won Closest to the Pin on Hole 14, securing the use of a Bowater Motors vehicle for a month. Wendy Brownie and Bruce Harper took out Closest to the Pin on Hole 4 in the women’s and men’s competitions, while Steve Schwass and Evelyn Bos won the longest drive section.
Paul says Motueka is “on the cusp of something big”.
“This tournament is a fun, high-impact way for the community to get behind it,” he says.
