“A very successful week in every aspect”.
The Vero International Festival of Historic Motoring returned to Nelson last week in fine fettle, after the celebration of classic and vintage vehicles last pulled into the area in 1972.
With 560 vehicles spanning from 1918 to the 80s and 1087 participants from across the motu, they were impossible for road users to ignore on their jaunts across the region and at parked up events at Buxton and Montgomery Square’s carparks and Richmond A&P Showgrounds.
Festival director Ray Robertson says that not even the driving fuel prices could put a dent in the event’s outcomes.
“The social media pages were just absolutely flooded with commentary from people excited about the event, whether it be participating in it themselves, or a spectator on the side of the road watching them go past their farmhouse,” he enthuses.
More than 150 volunteers from around the Nelson Tasman region helped deliver the festival, giving their time and expertise across a wide range of roles.
“They have come together to help us make this event possible and shared their time or expertise in all manner of ways to make it happen, and we're extremely grateful for their support,” Ray says.
“I express my gratitude and thanks to the Nelson and Tasman community. It’s probably the largest event that's been held in this region for many years, and certainly injected a significant amount of money into this community as well.”
