
The region will be hit by heavy rain on Thursday, with up to 230mm expected in some parts of Tasman as a deep sub-tropical low approaches the country.
Metservice has issued orange heavy rain warnings for Tasman west of Motueka and the ranges surrounding Nelson.
Heavy rain and strong winds will also affect parts of the South Island, especially Tasman and the West Coast.
Between 180 and 23omm is expected west of Motueka which includes Golden Bay. A heavy rain warning is in place from 10am Thursday till noon on Friday, with peak rates of 15 to 25mm/h.
Between 100 and 150mm of rain is expected Richmond and Bryant Ranges between 6pm Thursday and noon on Friday.
A heavy rain watch is in place for most of the rest of the Top of the South.
Metservice warns residents to clear drains and gutters in preparation and avoid low-lying areas.
