Sand art creations have brought Motueka Arts Council’s inaugural summer workshop programme to a creative close, with 23 children and several parents shaping Stephens Bay’s black and golden sand on Saturday.
Arts council chairperson Julienne Dickey says the sandcastle competition was a fun and collaborative finale to the programme.
Motueka’s Fleur-Ange, Ella and Tallalah, along with their mother Tania, took out the main prize, donated by the Warehouse Motueka, for their large and realistic turtle, Lula.
Other entries included a mother-and-baby seal pair complete with pine needle whiskers, and an elaborately decorated sandcastle.
“Everyone else was a winner too, in a wide range of categories such as Creativity, Teamwork and Decoration,” Julienne says.
She says the competition is definitely something to be repeated next summer.
