OneSchool Global Nelson has helped raise more than $7,000 for New Zealand’s national children’s hospital, with a local morning tea contributing $608.50 to the cause.
The fundraising effort was part of a nationwide campaign by OneSchool Global (OSG) to support the Starship Foundation, with events held at campuses across the country.
At the Nelson campus in Richmond’s Headingly Lane, staff and students came together for a morning tea, providing an opportunity to give thanks for the work of the foundation. The cause carried particular meaning for the school community, with one student having previously received care at Starship Hospital.
Joanna Simon, chief executive of the Starship Foundation, says the donation reflects the commitment shown by the school communities.
“Thank you to the students, staff and wider community of OneSchool Global for this incredible $7,105.62 donation.
“We are so grateful for the energy and heart that went into raising these funds, and it’s especially inspiring to see pupils leading the way.”
She says funds will go towards vital equipment, innovative treatments and services that make a real difference to the lives of the children and families who rely on Starship every day.
OSG Nelson campus principal Natalie Doty says the fundraising campaign was both meaningful and unifying for the school.
“The morning not only proved a great fundraising success but also served as a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and reflect on the importance of the Starship Hospital.
“With one of our own students personally receiving care from the hospital, we were thrilled to coordinate a national campaign to raise funds for this invaluable service.
“This campaign is part of our long tradition of supporting charities that offer vital support for people in need.”
