Richmond Physiotherapy on Queen Street has opened its doors to offer structured, evidence‑based care in a welcoming, patient‑centred environment. Owner and lead physiotherapist Sam de Ruiter brings over six years of clinical experience to the region, having worked with some of the area’s largest rehabilitation providers. Sam holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and has specialised in everything from sports and work‑related injuries to post‑surgical rehabilitation, pain management and strength‑based recovery.
Richmond Physiotherapy was built from a desire to create something more personal, structured, and evidence based than the traditional model. “I saw a gap between quick, transactional appointments and what people actually need when they’re injured – clarity, consistency, and someone genuinely invested in their recovery,” he explains. “I wanted to build a clinic where patients feel supported from day one through to full return to function.”
Working alongside his wife and Practice Manager Katie de Ruiter, that philosophy shapes everything the clinic does. “Our approach is centred around being a trusted partner in recovery. That means working alongside patients, not just treating them. I prioritise clear diagnosis, honest communication, and structured plans so people understand exactly what’s going on and what it will take to get better. It’s a balance of evidence‑based practice and practical, real‑world application.”
The space itself is designed to put people at ease from the moment you walk through the door. “The clinic is designed to feel calm, modern, and professional, but also welcoming. We want people to feel confident they’re in the right place, while still being comfortable enough to ask questions and engage in their care. It’s not a rushed or clinical‑feeling space, it’s somewhere people can focus on getting better.”
Richmond Physiotherapy offers a wide range of services for musculoskeletal injuries, including ACC physiotherapy, post‑surgical rehab, sports injuries and general movement issues. “A big focus is helping active people get back to what they enjoy, whether that’s sport, training, or simply moving without pain,” Sam explains. Every treatment is tailored, with plans that combine hands‑on therapy, targeted exercise and education. “The key is progression. We’re always working toward a clear end goal, not just short‑term relief.”
For Sam and Katie, the most rewarding part of the job is seeing people regain confidence in their bodies. “Injury can be frustrating and limiting and being able to guide someone back to full function, and often beyond where they started, is what drives us.” With personalised care and a community focus, Richmond Physiotherapy is ready to support local residents on their recovery journey.
