Waimea Toi Toi United cricket talent Logan Andrews is preparing to take his game to the next level overseas.
The fast bowling all rounder is heading to England to play for Windsor CC, marking a major step in a breakthrough year.
The former Nelson College student made Jubilee Park and Waimea Toi Toi United Cricket Club his home base in 2024 and has been steadily climbing the bowling and all-rounder charts across all three Nelson Cricket formats since.
Logan says his opportunity in England came together quicker than expected after putting his name forward through the CricX platform.
“I had put my profile out looking for a club in the UK to play for and honestly, I didn’t expect much as injuries have affected my cricket CV. I heard back within five days which was a bit of a shock,” he says.
“I’ll be heading to Windsor Cricket Club who at the time were looking for a fast bowler, so I fit the role quite well.”
Windsor has recently been promoted to the ECB Challenge Cup, a nationwide knockout competition featuring many of England’s premier club sides.
“It’s a higher level than Nelson premier cricket, so I’m really excited to see how I go” Logan says.
Beyond the cricket, Logan says the experience off the field is just as important.
“I’m mostly looking forward to connecting with new people and spending time in a different place, and achieving my ultimate goal of county cricket.”
This season has been a turning point for Logan, culminating in his debut for the Nelson men’s senior side where he claimed five wickets in his first match against Hawke Cup rivals Buller.
Nelson Griffins coach Sean Neal says Logan’s impact has been remarkable for someone so young.
“It’s hard to overestimate the impact Logan has made in his first season with the Griffins - 16 wickets at 6.5 a piece is serious bowling,” Sean says.
“One of the biggest challenges going from club cricket to rep cricket is being able to bowl multiple spells in the same day, at the same intensity. Logan has been able to do this, proving that he is a valuable part of the Griffins.”
