Drivers are asked to take care at the crash site. Some delays can be expected as queued traffic clears.
Update 12.35pm: State Highway 6 remains closed near Murchison following a truck crash this morning.
A heavy vehicle tow is being sent to the crash scene to recover and move the truck, but it will take several hours to arrive.
This means the highway remains closed until further notice and a precise time for its reopening is not available
In the meantime, drivers are asked to delay their travel or use an alternative route.
9.30am: A truck has crashed and closed the highway south of Murchison.
Police were called to reports of a truck crash on Four Rivers Highway/SH6, Murchison, at around 9am this morning.
A police spokesperson says the driver has minor injuries.
The road is closed as the truck is blocking both lanes. There is no access between Murchison and the West Coast, or between Murchison and Springs Junction.
NZTA says no suitable local road detours are available. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and delay their travel until the crash is cleared and the highway is reopened.
"We thank motorists for their patience," the spokesperson say.
