A goldfish called Orca and a circus where the star act has been murdered combine for two fundraising performances for the Wakefield Community Hub.
Peter Verstappen joins Jen Amosa in the Country Players production of The Extraordinary Revelations of Orca the Goldfish, a cheeky play about what can happen when fantasies run amok.
It follows Henry, a business tycoon, secret agent and acting president of the United States who is a full-time fantasist, and housewife Alice, whose life by comparison is dull - until the arrival of a tall, dark and available French waiter. The couple play out their real-life rants and fantasies to no-one but Orca, their goldfish.
The two-night play run-on 22 and 23 May is paired with a ‘murderous whodunnit’ performed by Nelson-Tasman theatre group Glad to Be Here NZ, entitled The Circus of Lord Azure the Miraculous.
Despite the star act being murdered, the show must go on with the rag-tag remnants of the circus cast. The Glad to Be Here NZ duo aim to create an immersive experience blending comedy with mystery to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Peter says it’s a timely collaboration between the two theatre groups as the village fundraises for its community hub.
“We’ve married these two little shows together and packaged them as a gala weekend event to fundraise for the hub. We’ve got a loyal local audience and increasingly draw people from outside of the Wakefield community.”
Patrons can bring their own picnic food, in keeping with past shows, but no drinks, as a liquor licence has been obtained to operate an onsite bar.
