State Highway 6 between Nelson and Blenheim is open again after it was closed this morning due to flooding.
On Friday night six people were rescued after their vehicles were trapped by floodwaters near Canvastown, reported RNZ.
Police said the travellers were stuck at about 8:35pm on Friday.
Rescue teams were sent from Search and Rescue, Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, and the Defence Force, along with firefighters, "and six people were retrieved from vehicles", they said.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and follow all road closures and traffic management in place.
The closure means there is no direct route between Blenheim and Nelson. The only available detour is via State Highway 63 Wairau Valley to State Highway 6 Kawatiri Junction.
The closure has affected the Saint Clair half marathon in Blenheim this morning with organisers delaying the start by 30 minutes to allow Nelson runners more time to get there.
