The Tasman Bay Blues Club prides itself on promoting live blues music in the Nelson Tasman region.
Hot on the heels of their successful Blues Festival in March that drew record crowds, Thursday 21 May sees the return of their Women in Blues theme night, helping celebrate New Zealand Music Month.
First held in 2024, this unique event proved so popular it was standing room only at the club’s base known as ‘The Barn’ behind the Honest Lawyer pub.
The evening’s varied programme is dedicated to showcasing the tremendous talents of female artists from around the region.
This year the audience can look forward to hearing both covers and originals from an impressive line up taking centre stage and paying homage to all those who have gone before. Legends like Mamie Smith known as Queen of the Blues, credited as being the first African American woman to record a vocal blues song in 1920. Her most famous tune being the classic ‘Crazy Blues’, which sold over a million copies!
The Women in Blues event this week will offer a smorgasbord of grass roots blues music performed in a juke joint style atmosphere. For music lovers and blues aficionados, this lively evening promises to be, yet another sensational night of entertainment presented by the Tasman Bay Blues Club.
