With senior club rugby taking a break today, attention turned to the schoolboy competition where Waimea Combined Schools played its first home game of the second tier Miles Toyota Championship.
And the Baabaas played Horomaka Combined off the park, winning 65-12 at its Waimea College ground.
The big pack got the ball rolling with lock Liam Egan and No. 8 Morgan Jelfs-Berry scoring in the opening 10 minutes.
Then the backs got in on the act with fullback Andre Miller and wing Murphy Ward crossing out wide within two minutes of each other.
Andre, a Year 12 Waimea College student, made the most of the open spaces to grab a double and lively flanker Blake Judge completed the first half scoring but sustained a match-ending knee injury in the process.
The Baabaas’ six tries had them 34-0 up at the break.

The visitors, who are drawn from Hillmorton, Hornby and Riccarton high schools, struck first early in the second spell before WCS took charge again with five more tries.
First five Riley Weir grabbed the first and, after Liam nabbed a double, one of the Horomaka players turned to one of the assistant referees and asked how much longer there was to go in the game.
Long enough for Andre to get his first ever hattrick, and for reserve hooker Finn Price to notch the 10th five pointer.
Andre clobbered his opposite number and while he was lying on the ground, second five Harry Stilwell capped a strong game with the 11th try.
After a string of penalties went their way, the visitors managed a consolation second try in the 65-12 defeat.
The win lifted WCS to third on the table, with two wins and a loss, just ahead of unbeaten Christchurch Boys’ High School 2nd XV which it takes on next weekend.
Meanwhile in the South Island Boys 1st XV competition, Nelson College beat Dunedin’s King’s High School 42-24 in Christchurch.
Second five Viliami Holani and fullback Liam Soper both scored two tries.
NC will back up on Monday against top of the table Southland Boys’ High School, in the second of their magic round matches.
