A touch of Disney magic, a little Broadway drama and plenty of local talent will take centre stage this Friday when Nelson Musical Theatre brings singers together for an evening of musical theatre.
Backed by pianist Louis Lucas-Perry and hosted by MC Jake Danson, the concert promises a mix of whimsy, hope and well-loved songs from shows including Frozen, Les Misérables, Annie and Mulan.
Committee member Suzanne Borlase says that audience members can expect cabaret-style theatre in an intimate setting.
“It’s a great night out – and maybe you’ll want to give performing a go next time,” she enthuses.
“You’ll certainly hear some well-known Disney favourites, but perhaps some lesser-known songs too, which might become your next ear worm.”
Suzanne says 14 singers are performing, ranging in age from nine to 89.
“There is a mix of very experienced singers and people who haven’t sung solo for many years, or ever before.”
She says that the idea behind the concert is to create a low-commitment opportunity for people who love musical theatre songs but may not have the time for extensive rehearsals, while also helping performers build confidence on stage.
A Night of Musical Theatre – Once Upon a Song will be performed on Friday, 5 June, at 7.30pm at the Red Door Theatre. Tickets are $20 and are available from www.iticket.com and at the door.
