“Chaos and fun” opened like a book at Founders Heritage Park at the weekend, as “well over” 3000 bookworms – and a few booksellers – made a beeline with their biggest bags for bargains at the opening of the nine-day event.
In organiser Susan Johnson’s book, the Founders Book & Record Fair stacked up strongly over its first two days.
More than 400,000 pieces of literature, music, puzzles, comics, board games, and magazines – all donated by the community – delighted eager browsers who were rewarded for their efforts.
“It’s been a really good fair – happy people, happy volunteers, and the community’s been great to turn out as well as they have,” she says.
“Thank you very much for coming. We hope you come back again, and thanks for your contributions so that we can make this happen.”
The fair closes for another year on June 7 and is open daily from 10am to 4pm until then.
Its story ends on a fitting note, with all proceeds going back to Founders Heritage Park to support its projects.
Admission is $2 per visit, or $5 for a Book Express weekly pass, which allows unlimited entry across the nine days. Children under 12 are free.
