Top South Media is on the prowl for photos of die-hard Tasman Mako fans ahead of the team kicking off its 20th year on 31 July.
Mako Mana has been launched, a photo campaign for the public to share how they’ve channeled the pride, legacy, and spirit the Tasman Mako has entailed since its 2006 creation after Nelson Bays and Marlborough unions joined forces.
The top 10 entries from Nelson and the top 10 from Marlborough will take home a special anniversary Mako Legacy prize pack, and a reason to celebrate like the side winning National Provincial Championship (NPC) titles in 2019 and 2020 and the Ranfurly Shield in 2024.
The pack includes entry to every home game, an exclusive Mako scarf, an official Mako cap, and a limited edition anniversary pin.
Fans can submit photos of their attendance at Mako games or Mako related events, perhaps celebrating with the iconic ‘Fins Up’, or the photos can be posed wearing the team’s colours.
Tasman Rugby Union community relationships partnerships lead Shannon Cassidy says the team boasts a “loyal and amazing fan base” across the Top of the South.
She reckons in the 20th year it’s difficult to go a full day in the region without noticing merchandise being proudly worn.
“The loyalty and the pride they have I think is their point of difference,” she enthuses.
“We've seen a shark tattoo, and I think a lot of it is just seeing a lot of the younger generation wearing their Mako T-shirts everywhere.”
She’s buoyed by the Mako Mana’s photo campaign to honour the team’s two decades.
