With no official scoreboard working at Trafalgar Park during the Tasman Trophy club season, Ardent Nelson rugby supporter Alastair Cotteril staged a protest.
He got a whiteboard, went to the park and posted his own progress scores on it.
And his team Nelson won 41-36 to ensure a home semi-final back there this week against Waimea Old Boys.
Nelson City Council owns the scoreboard which has a broken part.
Manager operations delivery, Eddie Powick, says the scoreboard will not be repaired in time for this weekend’s Tasman Trophy semi-finals.
He says the existing scoreboard has reached a condition where repair is no longer feasible, with a replacement estimated to cost between $80,000 and $100,000.
Council is working with Tasman Rugby Union to explore replacement options.
