Dedicated Tristan delivers rain or shine
For more than four years, Tristan Hobbs has been a familiar face across Nelson, reliably delivering newspapers along his weekly route.
Whether it is raining or fine, Tristan makes sure residents receive their copy, showing the dedication and consistency that earned him recognition as Nelson Weekly Deliverer of the Month.
Each week, Tristan delivers about 300 newspapers, covering Alan St and areas around Nelson College and Rutherford St. Over time, he has developed a routine that keeps his deliveries running smoothly.
Helping him most weeks is his dad, Matt, who drops him off so he can complete the round and ensure every paper reaches its destination.
One of the more memorable parts of Tristan’s route is the company he keeps along the way, with local cats sometimes following him and adding a touch of personality to the job.
Jayden steps up to deliver for new homes
Jayden Ludemann is helping keep Olive Estate residents informed, delivering about 255 newspapers each week in the neighbourhood that continues to expand, and its surrounds.
Jayden and his mum Debbie took on the Waimea Weekly delivery round in April 2024 after Debbie noticed homes in the area were missing out. When she contacted the paper, she was told no one was covering the route, so the pair stepped in.
Since then, their round has steadily grown alongside the developing estate. Debbie keeps track of new builds and alerts the Waimea Weekly when more papers are needed, ensuring no homes are missed.
She has also built a strong relationship with the Olive Estate office, which provides updates she can pass on as the community grows.
The pair say the area is ideal for deliveries, with many mailboxes grouped together, making the job efficient. Along the way they enjoy chatting with residents, some of whom show their appreciation with treats at Christmas.
Jayden says, “always using good manners,” is key.
Jayden’s efforts of being reliable and friendly have earned him the title of Waimea Weekly Deliverer of the Month. He has received a double pass to the Silky Otter for his efforts.
