The senior classes of Te Puāwai at Motueka South School stepped back in time to 1912, embarking on a journey into history for an immersive 'Titanic Day.'
As part of the wider school theme Making Waves, the students have been deeply engaged in learning about the historic Titanic disaster. For this special event, each student thoroughly researched a real passenger from the ill-fated voyage and dressed up as their historical figure for the day.
The classes were buzzing with a variety of Titanic-themed activities. Students tried their hand at traditional folk dancing, applied their craft skills, and played classic games. Beyond the fun, the day offered authentic learning opportunities; students developed a deep understanding of the strict class system onboard the ship, participating in activities that reflected these societal divisions and sparking many discussions and opinions.
Both students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the day of unique experiences, making it a memorable voyage into history.
