The Motueka Bridge Club is welcoming a strong intake of new players, with 11 graduates completing a 15-week lesson programme and joining the club’s ranks.
A graduation night in June marked the end of the course, with a new mentoring programme set up to support the group as they take their first steps into regular play. Each graduate is paired with an experienced member to help ease their transition into club sessions.
Lead tutor Janet Howell is delighted with the group’s progress, highlighting the unique mix of ages and experience.
“It is great to have three generations from one family,” Janet says.
Twelve-year-old Jaxon Symons and 14-year-old Millie Symons are joining their mother, Kat Mataric, and grandfather Malcolm Macleod, who are both established club players.
One graduate says that the course has been both rewarding and social.
“Learning Bridge has been a fun and enlightening experience. It challenges the brain and reignites learning capabilities….AND the best part of all is that you make new friends!”
Lessons are held annually, beginning in early March, using learning resources provided by New Zealand Bridge, which include written and online materials.
Anyone interested in giving the game a go is welcome to drop into the club’s non-competitive Wednesday afternoon sessions, held from 1–4.30pm at 32 Tudor St.
