Women’s Support Motueka’s fundraising gala is returning in September in an expanded format, following a sell-out event last year that brought the community together and raised more than $8,000 for the organisation.
What began as an art auction has grown into a broader regional showcase, with organisers Maluz Moreno and Abby McCall widening the programme for this year’s September event.
Last year’s gala combined an art auction with dinner and live music, featuring ceramics, jewellery, photography and painting, with every piece sold on the night.
Maluz, manager of Women’s Support Motueka, says this year there will be more ways for people to contribute, including silent auctions and spot prizes alongside the artworks.
Massages, boutique hotel stays and restaurant vouchers will be added to the auction offerings, with a mix of larger and smaller prizes aimed at keeping the event accessible.
“We’ll be showcasing the beauty of the region,” Maluz says, noting strong support from local businesses.
There will again be a strong focus on art, which Abby – a contributing artist herself – says remains a highlight.
The evening is described as more than a fundraiser, with organisers calling it “an evening of art, connection and purpose” under the theme One Night. One Cause. Lasting Impact.
Guests will be treated to a three-course dinner, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages included in the ticket price. The event will again host live music.
Women’s Support Motueka receives more than 400 referrals each year from the Motueka community.
All proceeds from the gala go towards providing free advocacy, counselling and a safe space for women and families facing family harm.
This year, the group hopes to expand prevention efforts and strengthen youth outreach programmes.
Tickets cost $150 and include dinner, drinks and entertainment, with 120 tickets available. The event will be held on Saturday, 12 September, from 6pm. Tickets are available via wsm.org.nz/gala-2026/
