Nelson Suburbs will travel to Auckland for the chance to reach football’s domestic showpiece, the Chatham Cup.
In a repeat of last year, Suburbs will have to travel to Auckland for a semi-final in the cup, as it tries to make the final.
This time, the Nelson side will face East Auckland club Fencibles United, on the weekend of August 15-16. Suburbs upset Auckland FC 3-2 in the quarterfinal in Nelson last Saturday to reach the semi for the second year running.
Neither Nelson nor Fencibles have made the cup final before.
Fencibles is in fourth place in the Northern League with 11 wins from 17 matches, but its previous Chatham Cup record isn’t impressive.
Its best result is reaching the final 16 in 2003.
High-flying Cashmere Technical will host Napier City Rovers, setting up the possibility of an all-South Island final.
In the meantime, fourth-placed Suburbs will head to Christchurch this weekend for a tricky assignment against Nomads United, which is a spot further back on the Southern Premier League table.
