Motueka Music Group says its treasured Rameau grand piano is the heartbeat of the organisation, and that was never more evident than at recent meeting to save the Chanel.
The rafters rang with music from teenage siblings Anaia and Te Mania Brown, who welcomed people to the meeting with piano performances as they arrived.
This month, the piano takes centre stage again when Italian duo Duo Mimesi present a rare four-handed recital at the Chanel.
Federico Bucaioni and Gioia Barbera are travelling from Europe to perform in India, Australia and New Zealand. Both graduated from the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome and have been performing together since 2022. Alongside their work as a duo, they each maintain careers as soloists and perform with other ensembles.
Since 2022, the pair have taken part in a concert series near Rome called Musica Illustrata (Illustrated Music), where performers explain the works they are about to play to help audiences better understand and appreciate the music.
The Motueka concert promises not only an acoustically impressive performance but also insight into the music itself. The programme includes works by Schubert, Rachmaninov and Poulenc.
The concert offers a rare opportunity to hear a four-handed piano recital in the Chanel's intimate setting.
The performance is on Sunday, 16 August, at 7.30pm.
Adult tickets are $25 and schoolchildren's tickets are $5.
Tickets can be purchased in advance from Motueka Floral Studio (cash only). People can also phone the studio on (03) 528 4747 to book and pay at the door. EFTPOS and cash facilities will be available at the door.
