Victory Boxing’s Paul Hampton will be hard to miss in the organisation’s new wheels courtesy of The Car Company.
Car Company managing director Shane Drummond was on hand to uncover the gym’s brand-new, bright orange BYD Shark 6 Premium last week, as the two organisations begin a 12-month partnership.
Shane says the partnership extends on a life-long friendship between the two men, beginning as young lads from Motueka.
“Naturally I said yes for Paul, but also obviously for the group and what it does for the community, which we believe in,” Shane says.
“And it's grown from being a bunch of young kids that fight in a ring for the right reasons, to actually managing a lot of other people outside the younger people.”
Victory Boxing currently supports 500 rangatahi and countless others through various groups.
“It’s hard to put a number on it,” Paul says.
Shane says a recent visit to a fitness class for those with Parkinson’s Disease, cemented the support.
“We’ve always supported their functions and charity drives, but there were three of my clients at that class, and for me that was really special.”
“I didn't realise how many groups from all walks of life, age brackets, in the community were going through Victory Boxing to basically to put I guess your life on the right path or help with things going on in people's lives,” adds Car Company general manager Ben Brownie.
“And all of the volunteers that help Victory Boxing as well too. It's a pretty big team effort to make the ship run. So, I think just with us and giving back to the community in the best way we can, aligning with organisations like Victory Boxing is key.”
And as Paul drives away in his new Shark, he jokes that a sneaky trip through the KFC drive-thru is now out of the question.
