Wakefield families will have the chance to sing and dance with award-winning children's music duo Loopy Tunes when the bilingual sisters bring two interactive shows to the village in September, just ahead of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
The shows are the result of the Wakefield Toy Library’s successful bid for Pub Charity funding to bring the duo to the village.
Loopy Tunes began as an outreach preschool music programme at Beckenham Methodist Church in Christchurch and the sisters Siu Williams-Lemi and Leah Williams-Partington have since become well known for their bilingual Māori and Pasifika children’s music.
Toy library committee member Rym Lamrani says the idea to bring the musicians to Wakefield grew from a desire to bring more family-focused events to the village.
“We really want to make a point of bringing more things to Wakefield and do it regularly. But you always have to find the money.”
Rym says rural communities often have to travel to events, whereas bringing more to the village makes events more accessible and affordable for families.
The first Loopy Tunes show is being held at Wakefield School on Friday, 11 September, with a second planned on the Saturday. A second show on Saturday will be either at the school again or playcentre, depending on demand for the interactive performance.
