Polished men, polished cars, a jaunt to polish men’s health.
The fourth edition of Nelson’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive strapped in on Sunday, part of an international event to pump financial fuel into the Movember charity for its men’s mental health and prostate cancer research and programmes.
Co-driver Chay Staufer says while there was much lower turnout due to dark clouds and the ongoing dark cloud over fuel costs, the cause wasn’t left in the rear view mirror by the 16 debonair participants across 10 classic vehicles.
“It’s no less important than any previous years… the more research, the better, especially with the way things are going with workloads, pricing, and inflation, that can put pressure on,” he says.
“There was a good report back from all the people that attended, they were happy with the length of the cruise being shorter this year due to the nature of fuel, and they liked the fact that we had a reasonable park up so everyone could chat, hang out, discuss the cars, and mingle.
“With the few numbers that we had, we got up to $1000.”
Last year's round trip from the Nelson Classic Car Museum included stops at Havelock, Blenheim and St Arnaud.
This year's event was shortened to reduce fuel costs and featured a show and shine at the museum before displays in Māpua and Motueka.
