Nelson Youth Theatre's High School Musical is an energetic, entertaining show packed with personality and guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages.
Expertly directed by Amanda Lockwood, with strong musical direction by Lily-Ellen Martin-Hine and dynamic choreography by Gemma Laing, the musical captures a story of friendship, first love and finding the confidence to follow your own path.
Maggie Paterson is a standout as Gabriella, bringing warmth and sincerity through captivating acting and strong vocals. Dylan Welsh's Troy matches her note for note with outstanding vocals, creating an engaging partnership at the heart of the show.
Niamh Walsh commands the stage as Sharpay Evans, embracing her larger-than-life personality with dramatic flair. Ollie Petrie is an equally entertaining partner as her brother Ryan, and together they deliver energy and infectious enthusiasm
Amelia Hall captures Ms Darbus's theatrical manner perfectly in a confident, thoroughly enjoyable performance that highlights her well-developed stage skills. Evie McLean (Kelsi) and Elizabeth Lockwood (Jackie) deserve special mention for expressive, memorable performances, while Reuben Hart (Chad) and Evie Mintrom (Taylor) add strong stage presence to the East High dynamic.
The enthusiastic ensemble keeps the atmosphere lively, and the choreography is a real highlight, giving the musical numbers excitement and impact. A special shout-out goes to the cheer squad, whose impressive tricks bring an extra burst of toe-tapping fun.
With its winning combination of talent, energy and humour, High School Musical is a vibrant, memorable night out, and comes highly recommended for families and musical theatre fans these school holidays.
