People who love belting out a show tune, pop hit or rock classic will soon have a new place to do it.
Nelson Musical Theatre is launching Encore!, a new community show choir aimed at bringing together people who enjoy singing and performing, regardless of experience.
The choir has been in the pipeline for some time and, thanks to support from Pub Charity, is now set to get underway this month.
Organiser Saul Gibney says the focus is on creating a welcoming environment where people can build confidence, develop their singing skills and enjoy making music together.
“We want people to come along, have a go, and enjoy singing together. The focus is on creating a supportive ensemble while also working towards some exciting performance opportunities.”
The choir will rehearse on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9pm at Red Door Theatre, beginning on Monday, 12 October, and running through until Monday, 14 December.
Members will work on vocal technique, harmonies, ensemble singing and performance skills while learning music from musical theatre, pop, rock and contemporary genres.
Vocal parts will be taught during rehearsals and resources will also be provided for those who want to practise at home.
The group is hoping to appear at Nelson Musical Theatre’s A Night of Musical Theatre: Miscast on Friday, 13 November, before staging its own mini-concert in early December.
Anyone interested in joining can email saul.gibney@nmt.org.nz or head along to the first rehearsal.
