Wallets beware, the Hope School Country Fair is back, promising plenty of treasures, treats and temptations.
A change to October “for the warmer weather”, but there won’t be a change to the event’s vibrancy which has made it a bobby-dazzler fundraiser for the school which has 87 on its current roll.
Priding itself on a trusty old-fashioned fair approach, the public can make a beeline on Saturday, 17 October, for some student-made beeswax products, lip balm, perfume oils and crafts, alongside raffles, a silent auction, a garden centre, a chocolate wheel, quad bike sled rides and a farm animal area.
The crack of axes striking timber from the Nelson Axemen’s Club will also turn heads.
Fundraising this year to overhaul the school pool, co-coordinator Tara Diack says a pool of $30,000 from the public will help keep swimming and water safety lessons afloat for generations.
“I'd love to see us create $30,000. That would be amazing if we could achieve that,” she enthuses.
“We've had some amazing donations from local businesses, so our raffles and our silent auctions will be fantastic, and we'd really like to thank those businesses. Without them, this [fair] wouldn't be possible.
“It’s a much-loved community event, we get a really good crowd turnout, it's just a really good, old-fashioned family day out, which I think is really important.”
