Blackenbrook Vineyard has kicked off a new chapter, with its Sauvignon Blanc 2026 awarded Gold at the New Zealand International Wine Show.
It is the first wine made by owner Ursula Schwarzenbach and winemaker Trudy Sheild, who has been involved with the Tasman winery since it was established in 1999.
The New Zealand International Wine Show is New Zealand’s largest wine competition, attracting entries from across the world. Blackenbrook’s 2026 vintage is described as fresh, vibrant and expressive of its Tasman home.
Ursula and Trudy are now working together across the vineyard, winery and bottling operation, bringing a hands-on approach to the boutique winery.
Trudy’s own SHEiLD Albariño 2025 also received Gold at the competition.
The pair say the award is an encouraging start.
“Trudy and I have a great dynamic,” says Ursula.
“We’re both hands-on, full of ideas and keen to get things done. There’s a really positive energy around the winery.”
