Seven Year 6 pupils from Lower Moutere School took on high school students at the EVolocity South Island regional finals in Christchurch last week, bringing home some strong results with vehicles they built themselves.
It is the second time the school has entered the event. Teacher Tamsin Clark reports that the electric bike, which was rebuilt from last year’s entry, won the South Island gymkhana event. Meanwhile, the electric go-kart achieved second place in both endurance and on-track performance.
Tamsin says that it was a fantastic achievement for the seven Year 6 students, especially considering they were competing against high school teams. The trip finished with a visit to the Air Force Museum of New Zealand at Wigram, where students enjoyed an engineering-focused learning experience.
