Birchwood Kindergarten will celebrate its 50th birthday on Thursday with a garden party where first day student Colin Lott will return alongside the kindy’s first head teacher Anthea Kershaw.
A dress-up day to “make it feel like a real party” will have the current cohort of tamariki well prepared for the afternoon of celebration.
Children have picked the day’s activities which include a piñata and pass the parcel, before the public are welcomed into the kindy for cake at 3pm.
“We wanted it to be not another big event outside of kindy hours, but still do something a little, quite a bit different,” says teacher Marjolein Baerselman.
Current Tamariki will sing a few of their favourite waiata before the cake-cutting.
Big boxes of photos that span five decades have been sorted, digitised and printed to line the walls of the kindergarten for a trip down memory lane.
Marjolein says anyone is welcome to attend from 3pm Thursday, 5 November, and if you’re quick enough you might be able to nab a piece of cake.
