Sadly passed away on Tuesday 7th April aged 96, surrounded by his family. Much loved son of Albert and Agnes Hawes and brother of Tom. Dearly loved husband of Ardelle for an amazing 73 years. Cherished Dad and father-in-law of Peter and Suzanne, Dave and Jenette, Sue and Jim, Jenny and John, Steve and Monique, Tracey and Conrad (dec.), Jo and Masa and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Valued son-in-law and brother-in-law of the Elley family and uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Loved beyond words.

Allan was a talented rugby player and boxer, a highly regarded teacher and school principal for many years, and above all, a life-long learner. He was deeply interested in the goings on in his family and wider community, and had a sharp eye on world events. He was a scholar and a gentleman.
