The Wood, Nelson
$580,000 +
There is something immediately endearing about 2/175 Milton Street. Quiet, charming and wrapped in established greenery, this north-facing home enjoys a sunny, private position in one of Nelson’s most convenient neighbourhoods. The northernmost of just two units on the site, the home is framed by mature shrubs, a substantial camellia hedge and a level lawn, with generous eaves and classic stucco giving it an appealing sense of 1970's character. Inside, the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area connect naturally with the garden, while the kitchen itself looks directly across the courtyard and lawn, drawing in light throughout the day. Practical and easy to live in, the kitchen offers L-shaped benches, generous cabinetry and a central island for extra preparation space. A central hallway leads to two bedrooms, both with built-in wardrobes, while the bathroom includes a vanity, toilet, bath and separate shower. Hallway storage, a garden shed and single garage add useful everyday practicality. There is plenty here to work with. Timber-framed windows, original wallpapers and other details speak to the home’s era, while its simple proportions and uncomplicated layout provide an excellent foundation for thoughtful improvement. A deck and pergola to the north could create a beautiful connection between the living space and garden, transforming the sunny lawn into an inviting outdoor room. For a retiree looking to downsize, a single owner wanting an easy-care home, or a first-home buyer with imagination, the appeal is clear. The scale is manageable, the setting peaceful and the potential exciting. Location is another major strength. Botanical Hill and the Centre of New Zealand walk are close by, along with the Maitai River and its network of walking and cycling trails. In the other direction, central Nelson’s cafés, restaurants, shops, galleries and everyday amenities are all within easy reach, with the added advantage of level ground for walking or biking into town. What makes 2/175 Milton Street so appealing is that so many qualities are already in place: a sunny northern aspect, established gardens, peace and privacy, an easy connection to the outdoors and an exceptional location close to both the city and some of Nelson’s best-loved green spaces. It is wonderfully manageable in scale, offering a lifestyle that feels simple, relaxed and easy to enjoy. There is something special about a home that feels this settled and yet still leaves room to make it your own – this is a sweet little property with plenty to love from the very beginning.
